Exterior frame measures: 23" wide x 19" tall x 1.25" deep.
Steve Kennedy has lived and painted on Cape Cod since 1981. He knew he wanted to be an artist from an early age. Kennedy grew up in a somewhat rural setting in central Connecticut and went to the locally well-known Paier College of Art, graduating in 1981. In the fall of 1981 he moved to Cape Cod “to see what winter was like” and began painting plein air year round. Within two years he was established in the gallery scene.
Kennedy’s work is direct, honest and colorful; using both loose and tight brushstrokes. His studio works tend to be more evocative and contemplative. He is drawn to time-worn and mundane subjects, scenes others would pass by without noticing. His goal is to make these subjects noticed. Many of his works are smaller, completed in one or two paintings sessions. He does not have many influences, saying “I want to paint like Steve Kennedy.”
Kennedy’s work is collected locally, nationally, and internationally. In addition to his one-man shows, Kennedy has won numerous prizes at art shows, including the Salmagundi Club (NYC), the International Marine Art Exhibition (Mystic Seaport Museum, CT), North Shore Arts Association (Gloucester, MA), the Creative Arts Center (Chatham, MA), and the New Haven Paint and Clay Club (New Haven, CT). His work is in the permanent collection of the Cape Cod Museum of Art (Dennis MA), the Cahoon Museum of American Art (Cotuit, MA), the Truro Historical Museum (North Truro, MA), Wequassett Inn & Resort (Chatham, MA), the New Haven Paint and Clay Club (New Haven, CT), as well as multiple businesses and private collections.
