Vintage MCM Danish ACO (Axel Christensen Odder) Teak Cabinet

Some furniture deserves more than a simple refinishing - it deserves a second life. This Danish sideboard became one of the most labor-intensive restorations we've undertaken, not because it was the easiest project, but because it was too beautifully crafted to let fade away. No assembly.

Dimensions:

70 5/8” L
19 5/8” D
29 1/2” H

Interior space
15 3/4” Deep
16 7/8” H
33 3/4” W (each)

What immediately drew us to this piece were its extraordinary solid teak dovetailed legs—a distinctive design element rarely seen today and a testament to the quality of Danish craftsmanship. Knowing what this cabinet could become, we completely disassembled it, stripped it to bare wood, repaired and strengthened its structure, rebuilt key components, and carefully refinished every surface.

The restoration presented countless challenges and required many hours of meticulous work, but seeing the finished piece reminds us exactly why we chose to save it. While it still carries a few minor character marks and quirks acquired over decades of use, we believe those imperfections are part of its story rather than flaws. It is an authentic piece of Danish design history that was worthy of preservation.

Constructed from a combination of old-growth and plantation teak, the cabinet displays the beautiful variation in color and grain that makes vintage teak so desirable. Rich honey, amber, and golden tones shift subtly throughout the piece, allowing it to complement a wide range of interiors.

Because both the front and back are fully finished, this sideboard is equally at home placed against a wall or floating within a room as a striking room divider.

Restoration Highlights
+ Solid teak thumb pulls (added after some of the photos were taken)
+ Original solid teak dovetailed legs, fully restored
+ Original solid teak sliding door frames
+ Original teak veneer rear panel preserved
+ Original top veneer had sustained significant water damage, blistering, and wear, so it was replaced with a solid Iroko hardwood top. Iroko is highly regarded for its durability and warm appearance, closely resembling teak while offering exceptional longevity. The top has been protected with multiple coats of brushed lacquer for lasting beauty. As with teak, the lighter portions of the Iroko will naturally deepen and develop a richer, more uniform patina over time.
+ Original sliding door veneer panels were replaced with new teak veneer and finished with professional-grade Mohawk lacquer, while preserving the original solid teak door frames.

Originally, this cabinet carried an "ACO Made in Denmark" stamp (Axel Christensen Odder) on the underside of the left leg. During restoration, the legs were completely stripped to bare wood and refinished, and the original stamp was lost in the process. Although no longer visible, the cabinet's construction methods, materials, and craftsmanship remain consistent with its Danish origins.

This is not a reproduction or a mass-produced piece. It is an authentic mid-century Danish cabinet that has been thoughtfully restored to be enjoyed for decades to come - combining the integrity of its original craftsmanship with carefully executed updates that respect its history while ensuring its longevity.

I am happy to Facetime prior to ordering.

We will ship to Florida, New York City and surrounding boroughs (Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, Staten Island, Queens and Hoboken) for a fee, potentially. The logistics of delivery to the City, Unions and HOAs make it impossible to deliver for free. Please contact me for rates to these specific areas. You will need to contact and coordinate delivery with your building's approved movers. Florida deliveries may qualify for free shipping, but may take longer than usual due to the transport schedule.  You are also welcome to pick up or arrange your own delivery in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho for a discount. All sales are final. No refunds, returns or cancellations. Items are sold as is with no warranty. Depending on size, location and availability, shipping may be delivered via LTL semi truck, Uship, truck, trailer or van. They will deliver to your doorstep, loading dock, garage, or curbside - depending on delivery method and packaging. If shipped via LTL, the item will be securely packaged in a crate or on a pallet. Please take all necessary measurements prior to ordering to ensure the items will fit into your access points, door, elevator, stairwell, etc.  My usual go-to transport company delivers furniture with Sprinter vans (sometimes with trailers) and typically only has one person to deliver, so they will need an extra set of hands to help unload from the van. I will remind you of this once purchased - along with their contact information as tracking information. They are not equipped to offer a tracking number. Once it's in the hands of the delivery company, I do not have any control over the equipment used, age, gender, race or ability of the drivers.  We do not offer white glove delivery inside the home in the free shipping option - please contact us prior to purchase for additional labor rates and fees. Please also contact us prior to ordering if there are any sort of logistical shipping restrictions - eg. height and weight limits, restricted access, truck size limitations, etc. These restrictions can result in additional fees and may affect the ability to deliver. ****
